Rarotonga, known for its lush, dense, tropical rainforest and turquoise lagoon lies 700 miles SE of Tahiti. The island, 20 miles in circumference is perfect for cycling. Know as the "Jewel of the Pacific," Rarotonga stands 14,750 feet above the Ocean Floor. At a depth of 13,000 feet, the volcano is 31 miles in diameter. The highest peak is 2,140 feet above sea level. The capital city, Avarua, retains the historic charm of a 19th century trading post, yet boasts a large international-size airport with scheduled flights.
